The School of Human Environmental Sciences extends a warm welcome to Jessica Houlihan as she joins the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition as a lecturer.
An alumnus of the University of Kentucky, Houlihan graduated in 2000 with her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and a minor in Health Promotion. She has worked in the UK Department of Family and Community Medicine as a Research Associate and as a Physician Assistant in the Emergency Department of Good Samaritan Hospital. In 2005, Houlihan received her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from UK before returning one last time to obtain her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2014.
Houlihan’s interests include clinical and community-based research, quality improvement research, preventative and primary clinical care, women’s health issues, public health and teaching/precepting students. This interest has led to her new position as a lecturer in the Department of Dietetics and Human Nutrition. She will be teaching a seminar in food and nutrition (DHN 408G) and research and writing in dietetics (DHN 374). Additionally, she is working with other faculty members on grant-funded projects and grant proposals.
Outside of the university, Houlihan is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) and the Kentucky Academy of Physician Assistants (KAPA). With her membership in KAPA, Houlihan serves as secretary on the Board of Directors.
