Family and Consumer Sciences Extension welcomed our two newest County Extension Agents for Family and Consumer Sciences to campus for orientation in September. Thays Flores is an agent-at-large currently working in Crittenden County. Nicole Gwishiri is the new FCS agent in Bath County. Both are off to a busy start in their new positions. We welcome them to our team.
Nicole Gwishiri came to UK Cooperative Extension from North Carolina where she taught family and consumer sciences for the past six years. She holds master's degree in agricultural education and her bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences education, both North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Nicole served as an adviser to FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) and also a track coach. She serves on the National Leadership Training Team for FCCLA and taught students and advisers to be dynamic leaders at national conferences. She currently holds membership in the American Association for Family and Consumer Sciences, the Association of Career and Technical Education and the National Education Association. Nicole has always wanted to be a community educator and really looks forward to her career in Bath County.
Thays Flores completed her Bachelor of Science in Family Sciences at the University of Kentucky in May 2015. She began working as the new Crittenden County Agent-at-Large for Family and Consumer Sciences in August. Prior to coming to her position in Crittenden County, Thays interned with Christian County 4-H. During her internship she realized that she wanted to be a part of the Extension family. Thays previously worked with an autism individual and coordinated special outings in the community to help the individual feel more comfortable when in public. Thays has always enjoyed helping others and making an impact in the community. She is fluent in Spanish and has international experience from living in Panama and Italy.
