Earlier this fall, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension welcomed Teresa Montgomery to campus as curriculum specialist for FCS Extension. Teresa transferred to the position after serving two years as the Knox County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. Prior to joining Extension in 2012, Teresa taught in preschool, middle school, high school and graduate classrooms.
In the role of curriculum specialist, Teresa will provide support to FCS Extension personnel in the design, review, implementation and evaluation of curriculum. Her employment experiences paired with her education provides a strong background for this role. Teresa holds a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Maryland College. In addition, she has a Rank 1 in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Level 5 Early Care and Education Trainer’s Credential.
Dr. Cherry Kay Smith, program leader for Family and Consumer Science Extension shared, “Teresa’s training and experience of engaging learners with educational content is unique, a skill set that many do not have an opportunity to develop. Her experience as a county Extension agent has provided her with a keen awareness of the support agents need from campus-based faculty and staff.”
Teresa is excited about the opportunities provided through her new position. She remarked, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with specialists, campus staff and agents to develop user-friendly curriculum to meet the needs of our clientele across the Commonwealth.”
