On September 26, three new county Extension Agents for Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) attended a one-day orientation with FCS administrators and state staff. We are happy to welcome them into the Extension family and into their roles serving the communities in three different counties of Kentucky.
Dr. Vail, Mary Higginbotham, Cabrina Buckman, and Luke Fries
Mary Higginbotham began working in Daviess County on September 16.. Mary graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences in May of 2007. Before graduating, Mary had the opportunity to complete a FCS Extension internship in Fayette County. Most recently, Mary has been employed at the Owensboro Convention Center, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and US Bank Home Mortgage. Mary is a graduate of a local leadership program called Emerge Owensboro, which connects the Young Leaders of Owensboro program and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Young Professionals.
Cabrina Buckman is the new Washington County Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences. She received her Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management and Dietetics from Western Kentucky University. She is a registered dietitian and has been employed in a variety of professional positions utilizing her dietetics and nutrition background. During her college career, she worked at the WKU Learning Center assisting students with class sessions and had the opportunity to complete a FCS Extension internship in Washington County. Cabrina was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and served as their 2nd Vice President. She began work in Washington County on September 6.
Luke Fries is currently working as a Family and Consumer Sciences Agent-at-Large in Breathitt County. He began work on September 9. Luke is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. During college, he was involved in several campus activities including intramural sports, student government and the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He has had a variety of exciting experiences including work as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand and work with intellectually disabled high school students. Before starting his career in Extension, Luke worked in child care and as an assistant baseball coach.
