Lauren LeeStudent: Lauren Lee

Major: Hospitality Management and Tourism

Internship Location: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Lexington, Kentucky

What is your typical day as an intern? I check emails each morning then work in Lexington to build awareness for our Light The Night Walk which will be happening in October. I distribute flyers and donation balloons and collect in kind donations from local businesses. It is an absolute blast! Knowing that my work helps with blood cancer research and spreading awareness of such a great cause is extremely rewarding.

How are you using the applying classroom knowledge in your internship? I am using my knowledge from all of my previous courses at UK for my internship. One of the most surprisingly helpful is a computer course I took. I am constantly working on Excel and other Microsoft Office programs so that course is very helpful with my day to day assignments.

What is one key thing you have learned during your internship? One key thing that I have learned during my internship is that each day you come into the office not knowing what to expect. Every day that I come into the office I am met with a new and exciting challenge to overcome.

What advice would you share with other students who are preparing to complete an internship? Make sure that you are going to work somewhere you are passionate about. That way there are never days that you do not wish to go into the office.
