Each year, the Lexington Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) presents the Winner’s Circle Award.  The award recognizes a Kentucky woman who has demonstrated strong leadership, financial resiliency and control, a commitment to community, and a dedication to furthering women in business.  The 2013 Winner’s Circle Award was recently presented to School of Human Environmental Sciences alumnus Patricia Brantley Todd, ‘68.

Patricia Brantley Todd received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Kentucky in 1968.  The completed a Master of Science in Human Environmental Sciences at Simmons College in 1973.  She began her career teaching nutrition at the high school level in Massachusetts.  Today she focuses much of her time on philanthropic work linked to human environmental sciences.

Todd is a founding member of the University of Kentucky (UK) Women’s Circle, former co-chair of the UK Women in Philanthropy, and honorary chair of the UK Plaid Project Advisory Board.  She has been active with a number of boards and commissions, including service as chair of the Relay for Life Cancer Drive, and membership on the Women's Health Center Advisory Council, Lexington Opera Society Board, Lexington Ballet Board, and the Governor's School for the Arts Advisory Committee.

During her years as first lady at the University of Kentucky, Mrs. Todd worked vigorously to improve the aesthetic and functional qualities of the university and its grounds and to make Maxwell Place an inviting home for the university family.  She was very active on-campus and in the community.  Mrs. Todd is an active supporter of the School of Human Environmental Sciences, and in 2008 provided a gift to establish the Patricia Brantley Todd Award of Excellence in Human Environmental Sciences.  It is awarded every other year in recognition of excellence in research, teaching and Extension.

Mrs. Todd was joined at the luncheon by family and friends, including faculty and staff from the School of Human Environmental Sciences and College of Agriculture as well as fellow alumni from the School of HES.
