The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service celebrated Kentucky Saves Month in February. A capstone event was held in the Capitol Rotunda on February 26 where 14 youth piggy bank designers were recognized for their creativity. The program included Charles Vice, Commissioner of the Department of Financial Institutions; Colmon Eldridge III, Executive Assistant to Governor Steve Beshear; Erin Yetter, Economic Education Specialist with Federal Reserve Bank; Kelly May, President of Kentucky Jump$start Coalition, and David Lawhorn, Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust Administrator.

This year marked the third anniversary of the youth Piggy Bank Design Contest. Winning piggy banks from each Extension District were displayed in the Capitol Rotunda for the full month of February. Through sponsorship from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority and the Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust (KESPT), each winner received a $250 KESPT college savings account.
