The University of Kentucky Merchandising Apparel & Textile Club and Hospitality Management Association are planning "Color Me Spring - An Afterhours Fashion Affair" on April 8, 2011.
The fashion show will be held at The Barrel House, located at 903 Manchester Street in Lexington. The silent auction and bar will open at 6 P.M. and the fashion show will begin at 7 P.M. Upcoming spring/summer fashions will be showcased at the affair.
Tickets are $25 and include hors d'oeuvres. Proceeds go to help fund educational trips and projects for University of Kentucky students in the fields of Hospitality Management (HMT) and Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles (MAT). Students take annual trips to New York and Atlanta, which enable them to make industry contacts through professional visits and career fairs as they look for jobs and internships and expand their exposure to the hospitality and retailing industries.
The event itself is an applied learning opportunity for students in both majors. MAT students are working with local boutiques to select fashions to showcase. MAT students are also learning about the aesthetics of design through creating the physical and emotional elements of the fashion show. HMT students are learning about marketing an event, organizing a room layout for an event, developing catering menus, and creating a memorable guest experience.
Tickets will also be available beginning February 25 at the following boutiques around Lexington: AJ's Casuals, Bella Rose, Worlds Apart, The Peppermint Palm, Blackmarket Lexington, The Wedding Center Inc., Tres Chic Boutique and Salon Plaza, Miss Priss, Twirl Boutique, The Cotton Patch & Fabulous Inc. All checks should be made payable to: Hospitality Management Association.
