Ginny Ellington, instructor in the Department of Family Studies, has been awarded the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Region II Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award.Ginny Ellington, instructor in the Department of Family Studies, has been awarded the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Region II Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award. By receiving this honor, she will now be considered for the award at the national level.

ACTE is the largest national organization dedicated to the advancement of education which prepares youth and adults for technical careers. The ACTE Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award is given to an individual who provides significant contributions to professional associations and career and technical education programs in their fields, communities, and/or states.

“We are very proud of Ginny for receiving this award,” said Dr. Ron Werner-Wilson, chair of the Family Studies department. “It is well-deserved. Ginny is an excellent teacher, and we are fortunate to have her as a member of the Family Studies faculty.”

Ellington has a broad background in Career and Technical Education and Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS). Before coming to UK, she served as educational program consultant to the Kentucky Department of Education and as State Adviser for the Kentucky Association of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. Ellington was also the State Director of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Chair of the National FCCLA Board of Directors.

During her tenure at UK, Ellington has received the Outstanding Teacher Award in the School of Human Environmental Sciences (HES) at UK, the Outstanding Advisor in the College of Agriculture, and the Association for Career and Technical Education / Family and Consumer Sciences Graduate Fellowship Hall of Fame.

“I have been very blessed to work with such wonderful students and teachers during my career and each one deserves a small piece of this award,” said Ellington. “The accomplishments and successes they obtain make me realize each day why I chose career and technical education, specifically family and consumer sciences education, as my career. It is an honor to receive this award from my peers in Region II of the Association of Career and Technical Education.”
