The National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association (NAADA) awarded the University of Kentucky first place in the category of Event and Promotional Materials for Student Projects within their Publication and Projects competition. The award program recognizes outstanding publications among land-grant colleges of agricultural sciences. Award winners were announced at the NAADA annual conference on June 15, 2009, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The first place award was given for two promotional items developed as part of the University of Kentucky Plaid Project - a bookmark and a magnet. The official University of Kentucky plaid was chosen one year ago as part of a student learning project in the Department of Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles. The promotional items were designed through the project's advisory board and include elements of the student plaid and logo designs.
The initial Kentucky plaid products will be available in time for the fall semester and tailgating season. Through course work in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles, students will continue to utilize the plaid in learning about product development from concept to retailing.
NAADA is a professional association that serves alumni, development, and student professionals who expand the human and financial resource base of the nation's colleges of agriculture. NAADA's members come from the agricultural colleges and alumni organizations within the 1862, 1890, and 1994 land-grant institutions, plus institutions holding membership in NASULGC having agricultural, forestry, and natural resource programs.
