U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Ed Schafer recently announced the appointment of six individuals to serve on the National Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics (NAREEE) Advisory Board. This Board advises the Secretary of Agriculture and informs Land-Grant colleges and universities on top national priorities and policies for food and agricultural research, education, extension and economics. The recent appointees include Marianne Smith-Edge, an alumnus of the School of Human Environmental Sciences and current host of the "It's About You" segment of Growing Kentucky, the College of Agriculture television program. Smith-Edge, a native of Owensboro, Kentucky, represents the American Dietetic Association on this prestigious national board.
As a member of the NAREEE Board, Smith-Edge is actively involved in stakeholder listening sessions and the review of agricultural research, extension, or education activities conducted or funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The 26 member board includes represents from specific categories outlined in the 2008 Food, Energy, and Conservation Act. Smith-Edge will serve a 3-year tem beginning October 1, 2008.
