Image of Plaid display at KrogerKroger is making it easier to find items adorned with the official University of Kentucky plaid. As an introduction, 19 stores are selling several products with prices ranging from $4 to $15. If sales go well, the company plans to carry plaid items throughout the Commonwealth in stores with a dedicated college section.

Nelda Moore, with the UK Plaid Advisory Board, brought the idea for a special line of UK plaid products to Kroger’s collegiate buyer in October.

“I explained that the plaid was created by students and that the royalties go toward student scholarships,” Moore said. “(The buyer) was really excited about the look and about helping students.” As a result, 10 products are now available.

The items Kroger chose to feature are also items that students had suggested through course work in previous semesters. Customers can now find a set of buttons, a license plate frame, a UK Wildcat parking sign, a magnet set, a key chain, a lanyard, a car flag, a window decal, and a set of tumblers.

Most of the stores that currently sell the plaid items are in the Lexington and Louisville areas with others in Versailles, Shelbyville, Mt. Washington, and Georgetown.
