Jason Hans is bringing sex to UK. An assistant professor in the Department of Family Studies and researcher in the area of human sexuality, Hans, with the assistance of three undergraduate co-coordinators: Barrett Gargala (Family Studies), Courtney Roberts (Family Studies), and Tricia Telles (Journalism), began planning Sex Week @ UK over 6 months ago after learning of a similar event at Yale University. The coordinating team expects Sex Week @ UK to be bigger than Sex Week at Yale. "I believe ours is going to far surpass what they do," said Hans. "We have multiple and major events scheduled for each day of the week, including debates and presentations by internationally known sex therapists and sex educators from both coasts."
Sex Week @ UK promotes a climate of sexual literacy by advocating for sexual health and well-being, educating about sexual diversity and marginalization, raising awareness of sexual exploitation, and initiating an informed, open, and sustained dialogue about human sexuality throughout the campus community.
The week-long event is being supported by Pure Romance, an in-home party company which offers an exclusive line of bedroom accessories. Cengage Learning, a textbook publisher for universities, corporations, and government agencies, is also lending its support.
For more information on Sex Week @ UK, questions may be emailed to Dr. Hans at jhans@uky.edu.
