A main goal in the Department of Retailing and Tourism Management (RTM) is to focus on globalization, and a new faculty exchange program will be a key part of this work. RTM recently announced the establishment of a faculty exchange with Shanghai Normal University (SHNU) in China. Shanghai Normal is a national university with two campuses and more than 40,000 students.
Dr. Min-Young Lee, Associate Professor, will serve as the first visiting professor from the University of Kentucky. As a visiting scholar, she will teach brand management for approximately nine hours per week for three consecutive weeks in Shanghai. Dr. Lee stated, “This is my first time to teach students outside of the United States. This opportunity allows me to broaden my teaching perspective. Further, I can bring my experience back to UK to adopt applicable global aspects in our program. I will also pursue possible research collaboration with the faculty in China which will expand my research to overseas.”
Dr. Vanessa Jackson, Chair of the Department of Retailing and Tourism Management, is excited about this opportunity. She shared, “To focus on globalization, we must build collaborations with international institutions. Such collaborations provide opportunities for cross-cultural learning for our students and faculty through study tours and coursework. Dr. Min-Young Lee’s participation in this program enhances our ability to build on this need to provide our students with globalized educational experiences.”
