Summer is a popular time for students in the School of Human Environmental Sciences to complete their internships.  This series will spotlight student interns.

Internship Location:  Follett Higher Education Group Home Corporate Office, Chicago

What is your typical day as an intern?  No two days are alike.  Every day there is something new for me to learn and to take part in.  I do everything from helping run sales analysis, helping with re-orders, reviewing the Notre Dame catalog, reviewing merchandise request forms from the stores and also writing business proposals.

What is one of the things you learned as a student that you use often as an intern?  All of my MAT classes have combined to give me a well-rounded basis of information.  I used my skills from merchandising math when reviewing open to buys as well as my skills of visual merchandising to help re-vamp one of the University of Notre Dame store locations.

What is one piece of advice you would give to students preparing for their internship? Don’t be afraid to try something new.  The only way you’ll find out what you like or don’t like, is if you try it.  You learn something from every experience, so even if you find out that the position you took may not interest you, you’ll know for the future.
