What is your typical day as an intern?
I complete the daily work allotted for my position. On a typical day, I am at the front desk or occasionally in the Bistro during morning hours. I hope to be able to participate in all of the departments to gain a better understanding for the full operation of a hotel.
How are you applying classroom knowledge in your internship?
I am using my classroom knowledge to my advantage. I am able to understand how the operation runs, to file daily reports, to learn new tasks quickly, and to understand everything that is expected of me.
What is one key thing you have learned during your internship?
One thing that I have learned is that a hotel is like one big family and everybody has their part in order for the family to work. If one part of the system is not doing its job then the whole family will fail.
What advice would you share with other students who are preparing to complete an internship?
One piece of advice for other students who are preparing to complete an internship is to ask lots of questions and learn something new every day. This is a learning experience that needs to be taken advantage of.
