Brooke Jenkins, Peggy Powell, and Linda Adler, Family Consumer Science professionals, received the award in recognition for their work with "Living Green."Recently, Family and Consumer Extension Agents from Kentucky received many awards for programming from the Annual Session of National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. These awards recognized excellence in various aspects of Extension outreach and are strong testament to the quality of Extension programming in Kentucky.

The awards given for programming include:

  • Florence Hall: The Florence Hall Award is presented for an outstanding program conducted by one or more NEAFCS members who have been alert in recognizing new concerns and interests of families and have involved people in planning and implementing programs that benefit families. Diana Doggett, Fayette County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with Second Sunday programming.
  • Community Partnership: Recognizes NEAFCS members for outstanding community partnership efforts in meeting the needs of families through collaboration with group, agencies, and consumers. Diana Doggett, Fayette County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with Second Sunday programming.
  • Extension Housing Outreach: This award recognizes outstanding housing educational programs conducted for families and/or communities. Gina Noe, Madison County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with the Madison County home Energy Expo.
  • Environmental Education: This award is presented to an outstanding program conducted by a team who has been involved in educating families on issues concerning water quality, air quality, recycling, and natural resource conservation. Brooke Jenkins, Peggy Powell, and Linda Adler, Family Consumer Science professionals, received the award in recognition for their work with "Living Green."
  • Marketing Package: This award recognizes NEAFCS members for outstanding marketing efforts that address the concerns and needs of children, families, or communities. Stephanie Derifield, Lawrence County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with the "Smoking Cessation Pilot Project."
  • Distinguished Service Award: This award is the highest award presented by the NEAFCS. The award recognizes members for leadership, educational program efforts and professional development. Natasha Lucas, Judith O'Bryan and Martha Perkins, Family Consumer Science professionals, received the award in recognition for their work within their communities.
  • Continued Excellence Award: This award recognizes members who have previously received the Distinguished Service award and continue to be actively involved in professional improvement programs and promoting professional development and leadership. Recipients: Shelia Fawbush and Jane Proctor.
  • Healthy Lifestyles Education Grant: This award recognizes an individual with goals to create educational programs and public awareness emphasizing current health issues, including nutrition, fitness, and healthy lifestyle education. Luci Hockersmith, Mercer County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with the program "Find your Fit."
  • Communications-Written Releases: This award is to encourage excellence in communications. Kathy Jump, Simpson County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with "Get Moving Simpson County!"
  • Communications- Educational Publications: This award recognizes a fact sheet, brochure, bulletin or poster designed to inform, update, and encourage positive behavior. Recipient: Stephanie Derifield, Lawrence County Extension Agent for Family Consumer Sciences received the award in recognition for her work with the "Tree of Life Quilt."
  • Communications- Educational Curriculum Packages: This award recognizes creative teaching packages which include a teaching plan and evaluation and utilizes communication tools from two or more categories including: audio visual, written, exhibit, slides, transparencies, educational technology based program or an educational publication. Tracy Thornton, Janet Johnson, and Valerie Hudson, Extension Agents for Family Consumer Sciences, received the award in recognition for their work with the "Mix It up" program.
