Meredith McQuerry, alumnus of the School of Human Environmental Sciences and Ph.D. candidate at North Carolina State University, earned high honors from ASTM International. She was named the winner of the organization’s 2014 International Student Member Paper Competition. McQuerry’s paper focused on her master’s thesis research titled, “Post-Use Analysis of Firefighter Turnout Gear: Phases I, II and III.”
As the winner of the student paper competition, McQuerry, traveled to New Orleans in January 2015. She presented her research to the ASTM Committee on Personal and Protective Clothing and Equipment at their standards development meeting.
McQuerry is currently pursuing her doctorate in textile technology management at North Carolina State University and is a graduate research assistant in the Textile Protection and Comfort Center at NC State. She received her Master of Science in Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles at the University of Kentucky in December 2013. McQuerry also holds bachelor’s degrees from UK in both merchandising, apparel and textiles and career and technical education.
Dr. Elizabeth Easter, Professor, Department of Retailing and Tourism Management, shared, “Meredith is the ideal graduate student as she far exceeds the expectations of her professors and coworkers. When I visited her at NC State, her current major professor asked if I could send him more students like Meredith.” Dr. Easter served as McQuerry’s major professor for her master’s program at the University of Kentucky.
