Regan Bennett - Family & Consumer Sciences Student Teacher
Regan Bennett is a family and consumer sciences education major who is completing her student teaching. In an electronic interview she shares her experiences.
Where are you completing your internship?
“I am student teaching at Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg, KY and Elkhorn Middle School in Frankfort, KY.”
What is your typical day as an intern like?
“As a student teaching intern, I have the opportunity to practice being a teacher in a real setting. I am able to interact with students and other teachers, and put the teaching methods I have learned in the education program into practice. I am learning more about what my own teaching philosophy is by being emerged into a classroom of real students.”
What is one of the things you learned as a student that you use often as an intern?
“As a student at the University of Kentucky I have learned a variety of methods to access student understanding in ways other than formal testing. I find that I use these unique methods often to understand if my students are learning, and to keep a spontaneous classroom.”
If you could share one piece of advice for other students in you major who are preparing to complete an internship what would it be?
“I would tell other students who are majoring in Family and Consumer Science Education to always keep an eye open for teaching tools in their real-life experiences. Family and Consumer Science Education is real-world knowledge that students can use to successfully guide them through life. There are learning tools everywhere that FCS teachers can incorporate into their classrooms to make their classes one of a kind!”
