The School of Human Environmental Sciences would like to extend a warm welcome to Dr. Judy van de Venne as a new lecturer in the Family Studies Department. Judy comes to the department from her previous position as Extension Specialist for Military Special Projects.
The lecturer position is actually a return to the department for van de Venne, as she earned both her master's and doctoral degrees in the department. During her tenure as a graduate student from 2002-2009, she was employed both as a research assistant and a teaching assistant.
When asked about her interest in the lecturer position van de Venne shared the following, "My life was empowered and changed by the knowledge acquired from Family Studies at UK. Now I have a wonderful opportunity to pay that forward and hopefully touch other lives in the same way."
The courses that Dr. van de Venne will be teaching this year are: FAM 759 - Working with Military Families, FAM 253 - Human Sexuality, FAM 652 -Readings in Family Theory and Research, FAM 252 - Introduction to Family Science, and FAM 690 - Research Methods in Family Science.
As a new lecturer in the department, Dr. van de Venne hopes to provide herself and her students with many opportunities to grow and succeed. She is continuously looking for new ways to educate students in the most effective manner and hopes to pass on her passion for the courses taught this upcoming year to her students.
