In Fleming and Lawrence counties, special projects anities Project, youth in these counties are participating in a variety of activities.
In June, eighteen members of the Fleming County CYFAR program were recognized in front of their 400 classmates at the awards and recognition day ceremony at school on June 4th. Each CYFAR member was recognized individually for their outstanding participation in leadership, citizenship and community projects during the 2009-2010 school year. Taylor Lawson was presented the 2009 - 2010 Outstanding Member Award for her accomplishments and participation in the Fleming County CYFAR program. Taylor has demonstrated outstanding leadership ability within the CYFAR program, as well as in academics, athletics and community involvement.
The Fleming County community beautification program was the hit of the summer with new bedding plants and shrubbery being landscaped at Simons Middle School and the Fleming County Extension Office. CYFAR core youth worked with local landscapers to design a beautiful flower garden quilt. A CYFAR core youth member helped to choose the design of a pinwheel in conjunction with Pinwheels For Prevention/Child Abuse Awareness. CYFAR youth choose the colors of yellow and pink with marigolds and impatiens respectfully.
The flower garden quilt is displayed for public viewing at the Fleming County Extension Office. CYFAR core youth also created a beautiful garden on the grounds at the Youth Service Center at Simons Middle School. They planted rose bushes, hostas, corabell, and shrubs in a beautifully landscaped design that is displayed at the front of the Youth Service Center. The CYFAR core youth are responsible for the maintenance of these gardens and tours of the garden.
