The Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles (MAT) Club is presenting a fashion show on March 29th to benefit Search.Love.Rescue., a local charity that collects food and clothing for underprivileged children overseas. The organization's president, Ashley Waddell, is a graduate student at UK and began the organization in 2008 after a visit to Cali, Colombia. Her visit motivated Ashley to start the non-profit to help children in need.
The Keeneland themed fashion show will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Worsham Theater in the Student Center on March 29. Admission is $5; $3 will benefit Search.Love.Rescue., and the other $2 will help fund the MAT Club's annual trip to America's Mart in Atlanta, Georgia, this spring. "The trip exposes students to what a day in the life of a corporate buyer would look like, and is a great educational trip that broadens our member's horizons," said Meredith Cinnamon, president of the MAT Club.
The Peppermint Palm, Worlds Apart, Bella Rose, and AJ's Clothing, all Lexington boutiques, are providing clothes for the spring fashion show. The event will be held in conjunction with "Project Catwalk," which is put on by the Student Activities Board. The MAT Club show will start first at 7:30 p.m., with student designs to follow afterwards.
The Department of Merchandising, Apparel and Textiles prepares students for careers in the global retail industry. Graduates of this program find careers in which they apply the business and professional skills developed in the program.
