Tianna Connelly Name:  Tianna Connelly

Major:  Hospitality Management Tourism

Expected graduation date:  December 2018

Internship Location:  Riverwood Mansion (Nashville, TN)

Please describe your typical day as an intern:  Each day I start by updating our events schedule. It is printed for the planners weekly. I sit in on planning meetings during the week and take notes, as well as attend showings. I work on our social media platforms (Instagram and our blog) with the other interns trying to create the best content for our platforms. On the weekends, I pull decor to set up for the weddings we have and help with crowd control during the event.

How are you using and applying classroom knowledge in your internship?

I have been able to really use my Excel skills in this environment. Many of the Hospitality classes I have taken have helped me with how I interact with my managers and the guests. My event management class especially helped me because that class prepared me for what I was being put up against.

What is one key thing you have learned during your internship?

There is always something new to learn! One of my managers, who has worked at Riverwood for 15 years, is still learning how to improve her skills and keep up with the changing trends in this industry.

If you could share one piece of advice for other students who are preparing to complete an internship, what would it be?

Be yourself! As long as you're a hard worker and putting forth effort, it will be seen and greatly appreciated.
